Tips for purchasing home for a family with toddlers

Most of the first-time home buyers in India range between the age group of 25-35 years and thus have toddlers or newborns. Hence, ensuring the safety needs of the home from the perspective of a toddler is very essential during house hunt.

Here are some points to assist you with the safety of toddlers in new home:

Grills and Railings- The balconies and open areas should be well fitted with grills and railings if you have a toddler at home. Select railing design that cannot be easily climbed upon. Avoid sharp edged railings as they could cause deep cuts.

Open Kitchen- Homes with open kitchen are quite in trend. If you go for such residential space make sure to keep electrical gadgets and sharp cutters away from the child’s reach. Also, the dustbin should be properly covered and placed in a closed cabinet.

Flooring- Opt for evenly placed floor options like wooden floors and marbles. There shouldn’t be any protruding corners or sharp edges that can hurt a crawling baby’s knees and hands.

Windows- The sliding windows are a risky option as kids quickly learn to open them. Hence, place internal window grills to ensure the safety of your child.

Staircase- If you go for an apartment then there wouldn’t be any staircase inside but if you opt for a penthouse, duplex or row house, you need to be very careful about the staircase. Herein, fixing small doors at the beginning and end of the staircase could make it safe as the toddler would not be able to climb up.

Electrical Outlets- Ensure to keep the electrical points at a height where toddlers cannot reach. Cover the unused sockets with switch caps.
